Hadith #197
Arabic Text
قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو فَضَالَةَ الْفَرَجُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعْدٍ قَالَ رَأَيْتُ وَاثِلَةَ بْنَ الْأَسْقَعِ يُصَلِّي فِي مَسْجِدِ دِمَشْقَ فَبَزَقَ تَحْتَ رِجْلِهِ الْيُسْرَى ثُم
َّ عَرَكَهَا بِرِجْلِهِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ قُلْتُ أَنْتَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَبْزُقُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَفْعَلُ

English Translation
Hāshim narrated to us: Abū Faḍālah al-Faraj narrated to us: Abū Saʿd narrated to us, he said: I saw Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ praying in the mosque of Damascus. He spat under his left foot, then rubbed it with his foot. When he finished, I said: 'You are from the Companions of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and you spit in the mosque?' He said: 'This is how I saw the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ do it.'
