English Translation

Abū al-Naḍr narrated to us: Shaybān narrated to us, from Layth, from Abū Burdah ibn Abī Mūsā, from Abū Malīḥ ibn Usāmah, from Wāthilah ibn al-Asqaʿ, who said: I was with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ one day when a man came and said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, I have committed one of the legal offenses against Allāh عز وجل, so apply the punishment of Allāh on me.' He turned away. Then the man came a second time and he turned away. Then he said it a third time and he turned away. Then the prayer was called and when it ended, the man came a fourth time and said: 'I have committed one of the legal offenses against Allāh عز وجل, so apply the punishment of Allāh عز وجل on me.' He called him over and said: 'Did you not perform wuḍūʾ well and then attend the prayer with us just now?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Go, for that is your expiation.'
