English Translation

Yazīd narrated to us: Jarīr ibn Ḥāzim informed us, from Muḥammad ibn Abī Yaʿqūb, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Shaddād, from his father, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ came out to us for one of the two afternoon prayers — Ẓuhr or ʿAṣr — carrying Ḥasan or Ḥusayn. the Prophet ﷺ came forward, placed him down, then made the opening takbīr for the prayer. During his prayer, he made a prostration and prolonged it. He said: I raised my head and saw the boy on the back of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ while he was prostrating, so I returned to my prostration. When the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ finished the prayer, the people said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, you made a prostration during your prayer that you prolonged greatly. We thought something had happened or that you were receiving revelation.' He said: 'None of that happened. But my son climbed on my back, and I did not want to rush him until he had finished what he wanted.'
