حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي زِيَادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ أَنَّ أَبَا الزِّنَادِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ حَمْزَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْأَسْلَمِيِّ صَاحِبِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَهُ وَرَهْطًا مَعَهُ إِلَى رَجُلٍ مِنْ عُذْرَةَ فَقَالَ إِنْ قَدَرْتُمْ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَأَحْرِقُوهُ بِالنَّارِ فَانْطَلَقُوا حَتَّى إِذَا

تَوَارَوْا مِنْهُ نَادَاهُمْ أَوْ أَرْسَلَ فِي أَثَرِهِمْ فَرَدُّوهُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنْ أَنْتُمْ قَدَرْتُمْ عَلَيْهِ فَاقْتُلُوهُ وَلَا تُحْرِقُوهُ بِالنَّارِ فَإِنَّمَا يُعَذِّبُ بِالنَّارِ رَبُّ النَّارِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا زِيَادٌ أَنَّ أَبَا الزِّنَادِ أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي حَنْظَلَةُ بْنُ عَلَيٍّ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ أَنَّ حَمْزَةَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو الْأَسْلَمِيَّ صَاحِبَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَهُ وَرَهْطًا مَعَهُ سَرِيَّةً إِلَى رَجُلٍ فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ

English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Bakr narrated to us: Ibn Jurayj informed us: Ziyād — meaning Ibn Saʿd — informed me that Abū al-Zinād said: Ḥanẓalah ibn ʿAlī informed me, from Ḥamzah ibn ʿAmr al-Aslamī — a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ — who narrated that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ sent him and a group with him to a man from ʿUdhrah. He said: 'If you overpower so-and-so, burn him with fire.' They set off, and when they had disappeared from his view, he called them — or sent someone after them — and brought them back. Then he said: 'If you overpower him, kill him and do not burn him with fire, for only the Lord of fire punishes with fire.' ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us: Ibn Jurayj informed us: Ziyād informed us that Abū al-Zinād informed him: Ḥanẓalah ibn ʿAlī al-Aslamī informed me that Ḥamzah ibn ʿAmr al-Aslamī — a Companion of the Prophet ﷺ — narrated to him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ sent him and a group with him as a military expedition to a man — and he mentioned its meaning.
