حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ يَعْلَى بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ كُنَّا نُحَاقِلُ بِالْأَرْضِ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى الل
َّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنُكْرِيهَا بِالثُّلُثِ وَالرُّبُعِ وَالطَّعَامِ الْمُسَمَّى فَجَاءَنَا ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ رَجُلٌ مِنْ عُمُومَتِي فَقَالَ نَهَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ أَمْرٍ كَانَ لَنَا نَافِعًا وَطَاعَةُ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ أَنْفَعُ لَنَا نَهَانَا أَنْ نُحَاقِلَ بِالْأَرْضِ فَنُكْرِيَهَا عَلَى الثُّلُثِ وَالرُّبُعِ وَالطَّعَامِ الْمُسَمَّى وَأَمَرَ رَبَّ الْأَرْضِ أَنْ يَزْرَعَهَا أَوْ يُزْرِعَهَا وَكَرِهَ كِرَاءَهَا وَمَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ

English Translation
Ismāʿīl narrated to us, Ayyūb narrated to us, from Yaʿlā ibn Ḥakīm, from Sulaymān ibn Yasār, from Rāfiʿ ibn Khadīj, who said: We used to practice muḥāqalah (land-for-crop deals) with the land during the time of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, renting it out for a third, a quarter, and food from a specified crop. One day a man from my paternal uncles came and said: 'The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ has forbidden us from something that was beneficial to us, but obedience to Allāh and His Messenger is more beneficial.' He forbade us from practicing muḥāqalah: renting the land for a third, a quarter, and food from a specified crop.
