حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ عَبْد اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَاه أَبِي عَنْهُ وَهُوَ حَيٌّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حُجْرُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ الْغَسَّانِيُّ مِنْ أَهْلِ الرَّمْلَةِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَوْنٍ الْكِنَانِيِّ وَكَانَ عَامِلًا لِعُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ عَلَى الرَّمْلَةِ أَنَّهُ شَهِدَ عَبْدَ
الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ قَالَ لِبَشِيرِ بْنِ عَقْرَبَةَ الْجُهَنِيِّ يَوْمَ قُتِلَ عَمْرُو بْنُ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ يَا أَبَا الْيَمَانِ إِنِّي قَدْ احْتَجْتُ الْيَوْمَ إِلَى كَلَامِكَ فَقُمْ فَتَكَلَّمْ قَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ قَامَ يَخْطُبُ لَا يَلْتَمِسُ بِهَا إِلَّا رِيَاءً وَسُمْعَةً أَوْقَفَهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مَوْقِفَ رِيَاءٍ وَسُمْعَةٍ

English Translation
Saʿīd ibn Manṣūr narrated to us — ʿAbdullāh said: my father narrated it to us from him while he was alive — he said: Ḥujr ibn al-Ḥārith al-Ghassānī from Ramlah narrated to us, from ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAwn al-Kinānī — who was a governor for ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz over Ramlah — that he witnessed ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Marwān say to Bashīr ibn ʿAqrabah al-Juhanī on the day ʿAmr ibn Saʿīd ibn al-ʿĀṣ was killed: 'O Abū al-Yamān, I need your words today. Stand and speak.' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: "Whoever stands to deliver a speech seeking only showing off and reputation, Allāh عز وجل will make him stand on the Day of Resurrection in a position of showing off and reputation."'
