قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ الشَّافِعِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَهْلِ بْنِ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ أَبِي حَثْمَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ وَرِجَالٌ مِنْ كُبَرَاءِ قَ
وْمِهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لِحُوَيِّصَةَ وَمُحَيِّصَةَ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ أَتَحْلِفُونَ وَتَسْتَحِقُّونَ دَمَ صَاحِبِكُمْ قَالُوا لَا قَالَ فَتَحْلِفُ يَهُودُ قَالُوا لَيْسُوا بِمُسْلِمِينَ فَوَدَاهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ عِنْدِهِ

English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Idrīs al-Shāfiʿī narrated to us, Mālik narrated to us, from Abū Laylā ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Sahl ibn Abī Ḥathmah, that Sahl ibn Abī Ḥathmah and senior men of his people informed him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said to Ḥuwayyiṣah, Muḥayyiṣah, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān: 'Will you swear and thereby establish your right to your companion's blood?' They said: 'No.' He said: 'Then shall the Jews swear?' They said: 'They are not Muslims.' So the Prophet ﷺ paid the blood money from his own resources.
