Hadith #3

English Translation

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, ʿAwf narrated to us, he said: ʿAlqamah al-Muzanī narrated to me, he said: A man narrated to me, saying: I was in a gathering in which ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb رضي الله عنه was present in Madīnah. He said to a man from the people: 'O so-and-so, how did you hear the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ describe faith (īmān)?' He said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: 'Islam is to testify that there is no god but Allāh and that Muḥammad is the Messenger of Allāh, to establish the prayer, to give the zakāh, to fast Ramaḍān, and to perform Ḥajj to the House if you are able to find a way to it.'
