Hadith #312

قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي غَرَزَةَ قَالَ كُنَّا نَبْتَاعُ الْأَوْسَاقَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ وَكُنَّا نُسَمَّى السَّمَاسِرَةَ قَالَ فَ
أَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ هُوَ أَحْسَنُ مِمَّا كُنَّا نُسَمِّي بِهِ أَنْفُسَنَا فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ إِنَّ هَذَا الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ اللَّغْوُ وَالْحَلِفُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ
English Translation
Wakīʿ narrated to us, al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from Abū Wāʾil, from Qays ibn Abī Gharazah who said: We used to buy awsāq (measures of grain) in Madinah and were called al-samāsirah. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ came and named us with a name better than what we called ourselves. He said: 'O community of merchants, this selling involves idle talk and swearing, so mix it with charity.'
