قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ جَامِعِ بْنِ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ وَعَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي غَرَزَةَ قَالَ كُنَّا نُسَمَّى
السَّمَاسِرَةَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَتَانَا بِالْبَقِيعِ فَقَالَ يَا مَعْشَرَ التُّجَّارِ فَسَمَّانَا بِاسْمٍ أَحْسَنَ مِنْ اسْمِنَا إِنَّ الْبَيْعَ يَحْضُرُهُ الْحَلِفُ وَالْكَذِبُ فَشُوبُوهُ بِالصَّدَقَةِ

English Translation
Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Jāmiʿ ibn Abī Rāshid and ʿĀṣim, from Abū Wāʾil, from Qays ibn Abī Gharazah who said: We used to be called al-samāsirah (brokers) in the time of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. He came to us at al-Baqīʿ and gave us a name better than ours, [saying]: 'Selling involves swearing and lying, so mix it with charity.'
