قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بَكْرٍ السَّهْمِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَاتِمُ بْنُ أَبِي صَغِيرَةَ عَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَوْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَوْسًا أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ إِنَّا لَقُعُودٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الصُّفَّةِ وَهُوَ يَقُصُّ عَلَيْنَا وَيُذَكِّرُنَا إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَارَّهُ فَقَالَ اذْهَبُوا فَاقْتُلُوهُ قَالَ فَلَمَّا وَلَّى الرَّجُلُ دَعَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَيَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ قَالَ الرَّجُلُ نَعَمْ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ اذْهَبُوا فَخَل
ُّوا سَبِيلَهُ فَإِنَّمَا أُمِرْتُ أَنْ أُقَاتِلَ النَّاسَ حَتَّى يَشْهَدُوا أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ فَإِذَا فَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ حُرِّمَتْ عَلَيَّ دِمَاؤُهُمْ وَأَمْوَالُهُمْ إِلَّا بِحَقِّهَا قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يُونُسَ حَاتِمُ بْنُ أَبِي صَغِيرَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ سَالِمٍ أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ أَوْسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَوْسٍ قَالَ إِنَّا لَقُعُودٌ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحَدِّثُنَا وَيُوصِينَا إِذْ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ

English Translation
ʿAbdullāh ibn Bakr al-Sahmī narrated to us, Ḥātim ibn Abī Ṣaghīrah narrated to us, from al-Nuʿmān ibn Sālim: that ʿAmr ibn Aws informed him, that his father Aws informed him, saying: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ at al-Ṣuffah while he was admonishing and reminding us, when a man came and whispered to him. He said: 'Go and kill him.' When the man turned to leave, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ called him back and said: 'Does he testify that there is no god but Allāh?' The man said: 'Yes, yes, O Messenger of Allāh.' He said: 'Go and let him be, for I have been commanded to fight people until they testify that there is no god but Allāh. Once they do so, their blood and wealth are sacred to me except by right.' Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdillāh al-Anṣārī narrated to us, Abū Yūnus Ḥātim ibn Abī Ṣaghīrah narrated to us, al-Nuʿmān ibn Sālim narrated to me: that ʿAmr ibn Aws informed him, from his father Aws who said: We were sitting with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ while he was speaking to us and advising us, when a man came — and he mentioned the like of it.
