قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ
أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي فَقَالَ أَنْتَ إِمَامُهُمْ وَاقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا

English Translation
ʿAbd al-Ṣamad narrated to us, he said: Ḥammād narrated to us, from al-Jurayrī, from Abū al-ʿAlāʾ, from ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ who said: I said: O Messenger of Allāh, make me the imam of my people. He said: "You are their imam. Adjust to the weakest among them, and appoint a muʾadhdhin who does not take payment for his adhān."
