حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدٌ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي الْعَلَاءِ عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَ
نْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ اجْعَلْنِي إِمَامَ قَوْمِي قَالَ أَنْتَ إِمَامُهُمْ فَاقْتَدِ بِأَضْعَفِهِمْ وَاتَّخِذْ مُؤَذِّنًا لَا يَأْخُذُ عَلَى أَذَانِهِ أَجْرًا

English Translation
ʿAffān narrated to us, he said: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, he said: Saʿīd al-Jurayrī informed us, from Abū al-ʿAlāʾ, from Muṭarrif, from ʿUthmān ibn Abī al-ʿĀṣ who said: I said: O Messenger of Allāh, make me the imam of my people. He said: "You are their imam, so adjust to the weakest among them, and appoint a muʾadhdhin who does not take payment for his adhān."
