English Translation
Ḥasan ibn Mūsā narrated to us, he said: Ibn Lahīʿah narrated to us, Abū al-Aswad narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿd al-Muqʿad, from ʿUmar ibn Abī Salamah who said: Food was brought to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and he said to his companions: "Mention the name of Allāh, and let each person eat from what is nearest to him." When Ibn Isḥāq says "and he mentioned" [without direct hearing], it indicates his truthfulness [in acknowledging it]. He said: I read upon my father: Abū Saʿīd, the freedman of Banū Hāshim, narrated to you, he said: Sulaymān ibn Bilāl narrated to us, he said: Abū Wajzah narrated to us, from ʿUmar ibn Abī Salamah, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said to him: "O my son, come closer, say the name of Allāh, and eat from what is nearest to you."
