حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ كُلَيْبٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الْجُوَيْرِيَةِ قَالَ أَصَبْتُ جَرَّةً حَمْرَاءَ فِيهَا دَنَانِيرُ فِي إِمَارَةِ مُعَاوِيَةَ فِي أَرْضِ الرُّومِ قَالَ وَعَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَعْنُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُ بِهَا يَقْسِمُهَا بَيْنَ الْمُسْل
ِمِينَ فَأَعْطَانِي مِثْلَ مَا أَعْطَى رَجُلًا مِنْهُمْ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَوْلَا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَرَأَيْتُهُ يَفْعَلُهُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ لَا نَفْلَ إِلَّا بَعْدَ الْخُمُسِ إِذًا لَأَعْطَيْتُكَ قَالَ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ فَعَرَضَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ نَصِيبِهِ فَأَبَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ قُلْتُ مَا أَنَا بِأَحَقَّ بِهِ مِنْكَ

English Translation
ʿAffān narrated to us, he said: Abū ʿAwānah narrated to us, he said: ʿĀṣim ibn Kulayb narrated to us, he said: Abū al-Juwayriyah narrated to me, he said: I found a red jar containing gold coins during the governorship of Muʿāwiyah in the land of the Romans. Our commander was a man from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ called Maʿn ibn Yazīd. I brought it to him and he distributed it among the Muslims, and he gave me the same share as he gave each man among them. Then he said: 'Were it not that I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: There is no reward except after a fifth (is taken out), I would have given you (more).' Then he offered me a share from his own portion, but I refused it.
