English Translation
Hishām ibn ʿAbd al-Malik and Surayj ibn al-Nuʿmān narrated to us, he said: Abū ʿAwānah narrated to us, from Abū al-Juwayriyah. ʿAffān narrated to us, he said: Abū ʿAwānah narrated to us, he said: Abū al-Juwayriyah narrated to us, from Maʿn ibn Yazīd, who said: I gave my pledge to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ — I, my father, and my grandfather. He arranged my marriage and acted as my advocate. My father took out some gold coins to give in charity and placed them near a man in the mosque. I came and took them. He said: 'By Allāh, I did not intend them for you.' We took the dispute to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. He said: 'For you is what you intended, O Yazīd, and for you is what you took, O Maʿn.'
