قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُجَاهِدًا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ الزُّرَقِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ كَتَبَ بِهِ إِلَيَّ وَقَرَأْتُهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ مِنْهُ يُحَدِّثُ بِهِ وَلَكِنِّي حَفِظْتُهُ مِنْ الْكِتَابِ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ فِي مَصَافِّ الْعَدُوِّ بِعُسْفَانَ وَعَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الظُّهْرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ إِنَّ لَهُمْ صَلَاةً بَعْدَ هَذِهِ هِيَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْهِمْ مِن
ْ أَبْنَائِهِمْ وَأَمْوَالِهِمْ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْعَصْرَ فَصَفَّهُمْ صَفَّيْنِ خَلْفَهُ قَالَ فَرَكَعَ بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَمِيعًا فَلَمَّا رَفَعُوا رُءُوسَهُمْ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَقَامَ الْآخَرُونَ فَلَمَّا رَفَعُوا رُءُوسَهُمْ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ لِرُكُوعِهِمْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ ثُمَّ تَأَخَّرَ الصَّفُّ الْمُقَدَّمُ وَتَقَدَّمَ الصَّفُّ الْمُؤَخَّرُ فَقَامَ كُلُّ وَاحِدٍ مِنْهُمْ فِي مَقَامِ صَاحِبِهِ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ بِهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَمِيعًا فَلَمَّا رَفَعُوا رُءُوسَهُمْ مِنْ الرُّكُوعِ سَجَدَ الصَّفُّ الَّذِي يَلِيهِ وَقَامَ الْآخَرُونَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ

English Translation
Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, he said: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Manṣūr, who said: I heard Mujāhid narrating from Abū ʿAyyāsh al-Zuraqī. Shuʿbah said: He wrote it to me and I read it to him and heard him narrate it, but I memorized it from the written copy — that the Prophet ﷺ was facing the enemy at ʿUsfān, and the polytheists were led by Khālid ibn al-Walīd. the Prophet ﷺ led them in the Ẓuhr prayer. Then the polytheists said: They have a prayer after this one that is dearer to them than their children and their wealth. So the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ led them in ʿAṣr prayer and lined them up in two rows behind him. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ bowed with them all together. When they raised their heads, the row nearest to him prostrated while the others stood. When they raised their heads, the back row prostrated — for their bowing had been with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. Then the front row moved back and the back row moved forward, each standing in the other's place. Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ bowed with them all together. When they raised their heads from bowing, the row nearest to him prostrated while the others stood. Then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ gave the salām upon them.
