English Translation

ʿAbdullāh narrated to us, Muṣʿab ibn ʿAbdillāh al-Zubayrī narrated to us, he said: My father narrated to me, from Fāʾid the freed slave of ʿAbādil, who said: I went out with Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Abī Rabīʿah, and Ibrāhīm ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān sent word to the son of Saʿd. When we were at al-ʿArj, the son of Saʿd came. Saʿd was the one who guided the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ on the route of Rakūbah. Ibrāhīm said: 'Tell me what your father told you.' The son of Saʿd said: My father told me that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ came to them with Abū Bakr, and Abū Bakr had a nursing daughter with us. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ wanted to take a shortcut on the road to Madīnah. Saʿd said to him: 'This is the valley of Rakūbah, and in it are two thieves from Aslam called al-Muhānān (the two despised ones). If you wish, we can take the route past them.' The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: 'Take us to them.' Saʿd said: So we went out until we came upon them, and one of them was saying to his companion, 'This is the Yemeni.' The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ called them and presented Islam to them, and they accepted Islam. Then he asked them their names and they said, 'We are al-Muhānān.' He said: 'Rather, you are al-Mukramān (the two honored ones),' and he commanded them to come to him in Madīnah. Then we went on until we reached the outskirts of Qubāʾ, and the Banū ʿAmr ibn ʿAwf came to receive him. the Prophet ﷺ asked: 'Where is Abū Umāmah Asʿad ibn Zurārah?' Saʿd ibn Khaythamah said, 'He arrived before me, O Messenger of Allāh. Shall I not inform him for you?' Then he continued until he came upon the palm trees, and there was the watering pool, full. the Prophet ﷺ turned to Abū Bakr رضي الله عنه and said: 'O Abū Bakr, this is the place. I saw myself descending upon pools like the pools of Banū Mudlij.'
