Hadith #306

English Translation

Abū ʿĀmir narrated to us, he said: Zuhayr ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl, from Muḥammad ibn Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim, from his father, that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, 'O Messenger of Allāh, which are the worst lands?' He said: 'I do not know.' When Jibrīl عليه السلام came to him, he said, 'O Jibrīl, which are the worst lands?' He said, 'I do not know, until I ask my Lord عز وجل.' Jibrīl عليه السلام departed, then remained as long as Allāh willed, then came and said, 'O Muḥammad, you asked me which are the worst lands, and I said I did not know. I asked my Lord عز وجل which are the worst lands, and He said: Their marketplaces.'
