قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ أَنَّ رَجُلًا لَقِيَ امْرَأَةً كَانَتْ بَغِيًّا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَجَعَلَ يُلَاعِبُهَا حَتَّى بَسَطَ يَدَهُ إِلَيْهَا فَقَالَتْ الْمَرْأَةُ مَهْ فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَد
ْ ذَهَبَ بِالشِّرْكِ وَقَالَ عَفَّانُ مَرَّةً ذَهَبَ بِالْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَجَاءَنَا بِالْإِسْلَامِ فَوَلَّى الرَّجُلُ فَأَصَابَ وَجْهَهُ الْحَائِطُ فَشَجَّهُ ثُمَّ أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَقَالَ أَنْتَ عَبْدٌ أَرَادَ اللَّهُ بِكَ خَيْرًا إِذَا أَرَادَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بِعَبْدٍ خَيْرًا عَجَّلَ لَهُ عُقُوبَةَ ذَنْبِهِ وَإِذَا أَرَادَ بِعَبْدٍ شَرًّا أَمْسَكَ عَلَيْهِ بِذَنْبِهِ حَتَّى يُوَفَّى بِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ كَأَنَّهُ عَيْرٌ

English Translation
ʿAbdullāh ibn Mughaffal narrated: A man met a woman who had been a prostitute during the Jāhiliyyah. He began to joke with her, then he extended his hand toward her. She said: 'Stop! Allāh عز وجل has removed shirk [polytheism] and brought Islam.' So he left her and turned away, and his face hit a wall. He came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him about it. the Prophet ﷺ said: 'You are a servant whom Allāh intends good for. Indeed, when Allāh عز وجل intends good for a servant, He hastens his punishment in this world. And when He intends evil for a servant, He withholds from him [the consequence of] his sin until He settles it with him fully on the Day of Resurrection.'
