حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلَكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو وَعَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ إِنَّكُمْ قَدْ أَحْدَثْتُمْ زِيَّ سُوءٍ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَل
َّمَ عَنْ الزُّورِ وَقَالَ عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ الزُّورُ قَالَ وَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ بِعَصًا عَلَى رَأْسِهَا خِرْقَةٌ فَقَالَ أَلَا وَهَذَا الزُّورُ قَالَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ قَالَ قَتَادَةُ هُوَ مَا يُكْثِرُ بِهِ النِّسَاءُ أَشْعَارَهُنَّ مِنْ الْخِرَقِ

English Translation
Muʿāwiyah narrated — via Saʿīd — : Muʿāwiyah said one day: 'You have adopted an evil fashion.' The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prohibited al-zūr [false hair]. — ʿAbd al-Ṣamad said: al-zūr. — A man came with a stick upon which was a cloth [rag of false hair], and he said: 'This is al-zūr.' Abū ʿĀmir said: Qatādah said: 'It is what women use to add volume to their hair from rags.'
