Chain of Narration (Isnad)

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ وَحَجَّاجٌ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ مَعْبَدٍ

الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ كَانَ مُعَاوِيَةُ قَلَّمَا يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فَكَانَ قَلَّمَا يَكَادُ أَنْ يَدَعَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ هَؤُلَاءِ الْكَلِمَاتِ أَنْ يُحَدِّثَ بِهِنَّ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ يُرِدْ اللَّهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهُّ فِي الدِّينِ وَإِنَّ هَذَا الْمَالَ حُلْوٌ خَضِرٌ فَمَنْ يَأْخُذْهُ بِحَقِّهِ يُبَارَكْ لَهُ فِيهِ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالتَّمَادُحَ فَإِنَّهُ الذَّبْحُ

English Translation

Muʿāwiyah narrated — via Maʿbad al-Juhanī — that Muʿāwiyah rarely narrated from the Prophet ﷺ, but he would hardly ever fail on the day of Jumuʿah to narrate these words from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, saying: 'Whoever Allāh intends good for, He gives him understanding in the religion. And this wealth is sweet and green. Whoever takes it by its right, he is blessed in it. And beware of mutual praise, for it is the slaughter.'
