حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ سَمِعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَقُولُ بِالْمَدِينَةِ عَلَى مِنْبَرِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَيْنَ عُلَمَاؤُكُمْ يَا أَهْلَ الْمَدِينَةِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ مَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَصُومَهُ فَلْيَصُمْهُ
English Translation
Muʿāwiyah narrated — via Ḥumayd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān — that he heard Muʿāwiyah say in Madīnah on the minbar of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ: 'Where are your scholars, O people of Madīnah? I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ on this day — the day of ʿĀshūrāʾ — saying: Whoever among you wishes to fast it, let him fast it.'
