حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَ
نِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ يَعْنِي الْقُرَظِيَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ مُعَاوِيَةَ يَخْطُبُ عَلَى هَذَا الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ تَعَلَّمُنَّ أَنَّهُ لَا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَى وَلَا مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعَ اللَّهُ وَلَا يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ مِنْهُ الْجَدُّ مَنْ يُرِدْ اللَّهُ بِهِ خَيْرًا يُفَقِّهُّ فِي الدِّينِ سَمِعْتُ هَذِهِ الْأَحْرُفَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى هَذِهِ الْأَعْوَادِ

English Translation
Muʿāwiyah narrated — via Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb al-Quraẓī — that he heard Muʿāwiyah giving a sermon on this minbar, saying: 'Know that none can withhold what Allāh gives, none can give what Allāh withholds, and the wealth of the wealthy cannot benefit him against Allāh. Whoever Allāh intends good for, He gives him understanding in the religion. I heard these words from the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ on these planks [the minbar].'
