Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us, he said: ʿIkrimah narrated to us, he said: Iyās ibn Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ narrated to me, he said: my father narrated to me, saying: I went on the expedition against Hawāzin with the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ. While we were having our morning meal — most of us on foot, with weak ones among us — a man came on a red camel. He took a strap from its belly-band and hobbled his camel — a young man. Then he came to eat the morning meal with the people. When he saw their weakness and the poor condition of their mounts, he went to his camel, untied it, made it kneel, mounted it, and galloped off. A man from Aslam, one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, pursued him on a gray she-camel that was the best mount of the group. I went out running and caught up with him while the she-camel's head was at the camel's flank, and I was at the she-camel's flank. Then I moved ahead until I was at the camel's flank. Then I moved ahead until I seized the camel's halter and made it kneel. When its knee touched the ground, I drew my sword and struck his head — it flew off. I brought his riding camel and what was on it, leading it. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ met me coming toward him and said: "Who killed the man?" They said: Ibn al-Akwaʿ. He said: "All his spoils belong to him."
