حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاح

ٍ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ أَنْسَابَكُمْ هَذِهِ لَيْسَتْ بِسِبَابٍ عَلَى أَحَدٍ وَإِنَّمَا أَنْتُمْ وَلَدُ آدَمَ طَفُّ الصَّاعِ لَمْ تَمْلَئُوهُ لَيْسَ لِأَحَدٍ فَضْلٌ إِلَّا بِالدِّينِ أَوْ عَمَلٍ صَالِحٍ حَسْبُ الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَكُونَ فَاحِشًا بَذِيًّا بَخِيلًا جَبَانًا

English Translation

ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "You trace your lineage to the children of Adam, and Adam was from dust. Let some men cease boasting about their forefathers, or they will be more insignificant to Allah than the dung beetle that rolls filth with its nose."
