‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو عَامِرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هِشَامٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَسْلَمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ‏ ‏أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ وُضُوءَهُ ثُمَّ صَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ لَا ‏ ‏يَسْهُو فِيهِمَا غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ ‏

Abū ʿĀmir narrated to us, Hishām — meaning Ibn Saʿd — narrated to us, from Zayd — meaning Ibn Aslam — from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī رضي الله عنه, that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Whoever performs wuḍūʾ and perfects his wuḍūʾ, then prays two rakʿahs without being heedless in them, Allāh will forgive him his previous sins."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏بَكْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ ‏ ‏و حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُرَيْجٌ هُوَ ابْنُ النُّعْمَانِ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ وَهْبٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏بَكْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي سَالِمٍ الْجَيْشَانِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ ‏ ‏آوَى ‏ ‏ضَالَّةً ‏ ‏فَهُوَ ضَالٌّ مَا لَمْ يُعَرِّفْهَا ‏

Yaḥyā ibn Isḥāq narrated to us, Ibn Lahīʿah informed us, from Bakr ibn Sawādah — and Surayj, who is Ibn al-Nuʿmān, narrated to us saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, from ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith, from Bakr ibn Sawādah, from Abū Sālim al-Jayshānī, from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Whoever shelters a stray animal is himself astray, as long as he does not publicize it."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُبَارَكٍ الْهُنَائِيُّ ‏ ‏بَصْرِيٌّ ثِقَةٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏بُسْرِ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ جَهَّزَ غَازِيًا فَقَدْ غَزَا وَمَنْ ‏ ‏خَلَفَهُ ‏ ‏فِي أَهْلِهِ فَقَدْ غَزَا ‏

Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us saying: ʿAlī ibn Mubārak al-Hunāʾī — a trustworthy Basran — narrated to us, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from Abū Salamah, from Busr ibn Saʿīd, from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Whoever equips a warrior in the cause of Allāh has indeed participated in the expedition, and whoever looks after his family [in his absence] has indeed participated in the expedition."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ‏ ‏وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏سُئِلَ عَنْ الْأَمَةِ تَزْنِي وَلَمْ ‏ ‏تُحْصَنْ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏اجْلِدْهَا فَإِنْ زَنَتْ فَاجْلِدْهَا فَقَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ ‏ ‏أَوْ فِي الرَّابِعَةِ ‏ ‏فَإِنْ زَنَتْ فَبِعْهَا وَلَوْ ‏ ‏بِضَفِيرٍ ‏ ‏وَالضَّفِيرُ الْحَبْلُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ‏ ‏الْمَعْنَى ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ‏ ‏وَأَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَا ‏ ‏سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ الْأَمَةِ فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ وَقَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ ‏ ‏أَوْ الرَّابِعَةِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيُّ ‏ ‏شَكَّ ‏

ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mahdī narrated to us saying: Mālik narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh ibn ʿAbdillāh, from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī and Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنهما, that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was asked about a slave-girl who commits zinā and is not married. He said: "Flog her." Then if she commits zinā again: "Flog her." Then he said regarding the third or fourth time: "If she commits zinā, then sell her, even for a ḍafīr" — and al-ḍafīr means a rope. Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us saying: Maʿmar narrated to us saying: Ibn Shihāb narrated to us, from ʿUbaydullāh ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn ʿUtbah — with the same meaning. ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Maʿmar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from ʿUbaydullāh ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn ʿUtbah, from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī and Abū Hurayrah رضي الله عنهما, who said: the Prophet ﷺ was asked about a slave-girl, and he mentioned the ḥadīth, and said regarding the third or fourth — al-Zuhrī was uncertain.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏يَزِيدُ ‏ ‏مَوْلَى ‏ ‏الْمُنْبَعِثِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِلُقَطَةٍ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏عَرِّفْهَا ‏ ‏سَنَةً ثُمَّ اعْرِفْ ‏ ‏عِفَاصَهَا ‏ ‏وَوِكَاءَهَا ‏ ‏فَإِنْ جَاءَ أَحَدٌ يُخْبِرُكَ بِهَا وَإِلَّا ‏ ‏فَاسْتَنْفِقْهَا ‏ ‏قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏فَضَالَّةُ ‏ ‏الْغَنَمِ قَالَ لَكَ أَوْ لِأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏ضَالَّةُ ‏ ‏الْإِبِلِ قَالَ فَتَغَيَّرَ وَجْهُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏ثُمَّ قَالَ مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا ‏ ‏حِذَاؤُهَا ‏ ‏وَسِقَاؤُهَا ‏ ‏تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ ‏

ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Rabīʿah ibn Abī ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who said: Yazīd, the freed slave of al-Munbaʿith, narrated to me, from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī رضي الله عنه, who said: A Bedouin came to the Prophet ﷺ with a found item. He said: "Identify its container and its tie, then announce it for a year. If someone comes and describes it to you [correctly, return it]; otherwise, spend it." He said: "O Messenger of Allāh, what about stray sheep?" He said: "They are for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf." He said: "O Messenger of Allāh, what about stray camels?" The face of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ changed, then he said: "What concern are they of yours? They have their hooves and their water-skins; they go to water and eat from the trees."

‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَرَأْتُ عَلَى ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏: ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَبِي ‏ ‏و حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏صَالِحِ بْنِ كَيْسَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏صَلَّى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ ‏ ‏بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ ‏ ‏عَلَى أَثَرِ سَمَاءٍ كَانَتْ مِنْ اللَّيْلِ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى النَّاسِ قَالَ هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَاذَا قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ قَالُوا اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ قَالَ ‏ ‏أَصْبَحَ مِنْ عِبَادِي مُؤْمِنٌ بِي ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِسْحَاقُ ‏ ‏كَافِرٌ بِالْكَوْكَبِ وَمُؤْمِنٌ بِالْكَوْكَبِ كَافِرٌ بِي ‏ ‏فَأَمَّا مَنْ قَالَ مُطِرْنَا بِفَضْلِ اللَّهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَذَلِكَ مُؤْمِنٌ بِي كَافِرٌ بِالْكَوْكَبِ وَأَمَّا مَنْ قَالَ مُطِرْنَا ‏ ‏بِنَوْءِ ‏ ‏كَذَا وَكَذَا فَذَلِكَ كَافِرٌ بِي مُؤْمِنٌ بِالْكَوْكَبِ ‏

He [Aḥmad] said: I read to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān: Mālik — my father said — and Isḥāq narrated to us saying: Mālik narrated to us, from Ṣāliḥ ibn Kaysān, from ʿUbaydullāh ibn ʿAbdillāh, from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ led us in Ṣubḥ prayer at al-Ḥudaybiyah following rain that had fallen during the night. When he finished, he turned to the people and said: "Do you know what your Lord has said?" They said: "Allāh and His Messenger know best." He said: "This morning, among My servants, there is one who has become a believer in Me" — Isḥāq said: "and a disbeliever in the stars, and one who believes in the stars and disbelieves in Me. As for whoever says: 'We received rain by the grace and mercy of Allāh,' that one is a believer in Me and a disbeliever in the stars. And as for whoever says: 'We received rain by such-and-such a star,' that one is a disbeliever in Me and a believer in the stars."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ حَزْمٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عُثْمَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏خَيْرُ الشَّهَادَةِ مَنْ شَهِدَ بِهَا صَاحِبُهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْأَلَهَا ‏

Ismāʿīl narrated to us saying: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Isḥāq narrated to us, from Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr ibn Ḥazm, from his father, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿUthmān, from Zayd ibn Khālid al-Juhanī رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The best testimony is that of the one who gives his testimony before he is asked for it."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَفَّانُ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَوْسَ بْنَ ضَمْعَجٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ الْبَدْرِيَّ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَأَقْدَمُهُمْ قِرَاءَةً فَإِنْ كَانَتْ قِرَاءَتُهُمْ سَوَاءً فَلْيَؤُمَّهُمْ أَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً فَإِنْ كَانَ هِجْرَتُهُمْ سَوَاءً فَلْيَؤُمَّهُمْ أَكْبَرُهُمْ سِنًّا وَلَا يُؤَمُّ الرَّجُلُ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَلَا فِي سُلْطَانِهِ وَلَا يُجْلَسُ عَلَى ‏ ‏تَكْرِمَتِهِ ‏ ‏فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْذَنَ لَكَ أَوْ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ‏

ʿAffān narrated to us saying: Shuʿbah narrated to us saying: Ismāʿīl ibn Rajāʾ informed me, he said: I heard Aws ibn Ḍamʿaj say: I heard Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī al-Badrī narrate from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "The people should be led in prayer by the one who has the most knowledge of the Book of Allāh تعالى and the most senior in recitation. If their recitation is equal, then by the one who emigrated earliest. If their emigration is equal, then by the eldest among them. A man should not lead another in prayer in his own domain [of authority], nor should one sit in his place of honor in his house without his permission."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مَالِكٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏حُذَيْفَةَ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى اللَّهُ بِهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏مَاذَا عَمِلْتَ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَقَالَ لَهُ الرَّجُلُ مَا عَمِلْتُ مِنْ مِثْقَالِ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ خَيْرٍ ‏ ‏أَرْجُوكَ بِهَا فَقَالَهَا لَهُ ثَلَاثًا وَقَالَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ أَيْ رَبِّ كُنْتَ أَعْطَيْتَنِي فَضْلًا مِنْ مَالٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا فَكُنْتُ أُبَايِعُ النَّاسَ وَكَانَ مِنْ خُلُقِي ‏ ‏أَتَجَاوُزُ ‏ ‏عَنْهُ وَكُنْتُ أُيَسِّرُ عَلَى الْمُوسِرِ ‏ ‏وَأُنْظِرُ ‏ ‏الْمُعْسِرَ فَقَالَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ نَحْنُ أَوْلَى بِذَلِكَ مِنْكَ ‏ ‏تَجَاوَزُوا ‏ ‏عَنْ عَبْدِي فَغُفِرَ لَهُ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ ‏ ‏فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَرَجُلٌ آخَرُ ‏ ‏أَمَرَ أَهْلَهُ إِذَا مَاتَ أَنْ يُحَرِّقُوهُ ثُمَّ يَطْحَنُوهُ ثُمَّ ‏ ‏يُذَرُّونَهُ ‏ ‏فِي يَوْمِ رِيحٍ عَاصِفٍ فَفَعَلُوا ذَلِكَ بِهِ فَجُمِعَ إِلَى رَبِّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَقَالَ لَهُ مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى هَذَا قَالَ يَا رَبِّ لَمْ يَكُنْ عَبْدٌ أَعْصَى لَكَ مِنِّي فَرَجَوْتُ أَنْ أَنْجُوَ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ ‏ ‏تَجَاوَزُوا ‏ ‏عَنْ عَبْدِي فَغُفِرَ لَهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏هَكَذَا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ ‏ ‏فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏

Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us saying: Abū Mālik narrated to us, from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh, from Ḥudhayfah رضي الله عنه, that a man was brought before Allāh عز وجل, and He said: "What did you do in the worldly life?" The man said: "I did not do even an atom's weight of good that I could hope in before You" — and he said this three times. Then on the third time he said: "O Lord, You had given me surplus wealth in the worldly life, and I used to conduct business with people, and it was my nature to be lenient. I would make things easy for the wealthy and give respite to the destitute." So Allāh عز وجل said: "We are more entitled to that than you. Pardon My servant." And he was forgiven. Abū Masʿūd said: "This is what I heard from the mouth of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ." And another man had instructed his family that when he died, they should burn him, then grind him, then scatter him on a stormy, windy day. So they did that to him. Then he was gathered before his Lord عز وجل, Who said to him: "What made you do this?" He said: "O Lord, no servant was more disobedient to You than I, and I hoped that I might escape [punishment]." Allāh عز وجل said: "Pardon My servant." And he was forgiven. Abū Masʿūd said: "This is what I heard from the mouth of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَزِيدُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لَأَتَأَخَّرُ فِي صَلَاةِ ‏ ‏الْغَدَاةِ ‏ ‏مَخَافَةَ فُلَانٍ ‏ ‏يَعْنِي إِمَامَهُمْ ‏ ‏قَالَ فَمَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَشَدَّ غَضَبًا فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ مِنْهُ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَقَالَ أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ ‏ ‏إِنَّ مِنْكُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ فَأَيُّكُمْ مَا صَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ فَلْيُخَفِّفْ فَإِنَّ فِيهِمْ الضَّعِيفَ وَالْكَبِيرَ وَذَا الْحَاجَةِ ‏

Yazīd narrated to us, Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated to us, from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, who said: A man came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allāh, by Allāh, I delay the Fajr prayer out of fear of so-and-so" — meaning his imam. He said: I never saw the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ more angered in an admonition than he was that day. He said: "O people, there are among you those who drive others away! Whichever of you leads the people in prayer, let him shorten it, for among them are the weak, the elderly, and those with needs."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَزِيدُ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ‏ ‏وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَشَارَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ ‏ ‏الْيَمَنِ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏الْإِيمَانُ هَاهُنَا قَالَ أَلَا وَإِنَّ الْقَسْوَةَ وَغِلَظَ الْقُلُوبِ فِي ‏ ‏الْفَدَّادِينَ ‏ ‏أَصْحَابِ الْإِبِلِ حَيْثُ يَطْلُعُ قَرْنُ الشَّيْطَانِ فِي ‏ ‏رَبِيعَةَ ‏ ‏وَمُضَرَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٌ ‏ ‏عِنْدَ أُصُولِ ‏ ‏أَذْنَابِ ‏ ‏الْإِبِلِ ‏

Yazīd narrated to us, Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid informed us — and Muḥammad ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us, Ismāʿīl narrated to us — from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ gestured with his hand toward Yemen and said: "Faith is there." He also said: "Indeed, harshness and hard-heartedness are in the faddādīn — the camel-herders — where the horn of Shayṭān rises, in [the tribes of] Rabīʿah and Muḍar." Muḥammad said: "at the roots of the tails of camels."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نُعَيْمٍ الْمُجْمِرِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏قُولُوا اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏وَعَلَى آلِ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏وَبَارِكْ عَلَى ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏وَعَلَى آلِ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏فِي الْعَالَمِينَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ‏ ‏وَقَرَأْتُ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ عَلَى ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏: ‏ ‏مَالِكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَهُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏

ʿUthmān ibn ʿUmar narrated to us, Mālik informed us, from Nuʿaym al-Mujmir, from Muḥammad — meaning Ibn ʿAbdillāh — from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, who said: It was said: "O Messenger of Allāh, how do we send ṣalāh upon you?" He said: "Say: O Allāh, send ṣalāh upon Muḥammad and upon the family of Muḥammad, and bless Muḥammad and the family of Muḥammad, as You blessed Ibrāhīm, among all the worlds. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious." And I read this ḥadīth to ʿAbd al-Raḥmān: Mālik, from Nuʿaym ibn ʿAbdillāh, that Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Zayd informed him, from Abū Masʿūd.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شَرِيكٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَاصِمٍ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْمُسَيَّبِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَلْقَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مَنْ قَرَأَ الْآيَتَيْنِ مِنْ آخِرِ ‏ ‏الْبَقَرَةِ ‏ ‏فِي لَيْلَةٍ ‏ ‏كَفَتَاهُ ‏

Yaḥyā ibn Ādam narrated to us, Sharīk narrated to us, from ʿĀṣim, from al-Musayyab ibn Rāfiʿ, from ʿAlqamah, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Sūrat al-Baqarah in a night, they will suffice him."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏حَبِيبٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي ثَابِتٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ ‏ ‏أَوْ ‏ ‏الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏خَطَبَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ فِيكُمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ وُلَاتُهُ وَلَنْ يَزَالَ فِيكُمْ حَتَّى تُحْدِثُوا أَعْمَالًا فَإِذَا فَعَلْتُمْ ذَلِكَ بَعَثَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْكُمْ شَرَّ خَلْقِهِ ‏ ‏فَيَلْتَحِيكُمْ ‏ ‏كَمَا ‏ ‏يُلْتَحَى ‏ ‏الْقَضِيبُ ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Ḥabīb — meaning Ibn Abī Thābit — from ʿUbaydullāh ibn al-Qāsim, or al-Qāsim ibn ʿUbaydillāh ibn ʿUtbah, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ addressed us and said: "Indeed, this matter [of authority] is among you, and you are its custodians. It will remain among you as long as you do not introduce corrupt deeds. But when you do that, Allāh عز وجل will send upon you the worst of His creation, and they will strip you bare as a branch is stripped of its bark."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هَاشِمُ بْنُ الْقَاسِمِ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏اللَّيْثُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ‏ ‏أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ وَمَهْرِ الْبَغِيِّ ‏ ‏وَحُلْوَانِ ‏ ‏الْكَاهِنِ ‏

Hāshim ibn al-Qāsim narrated to us saying: al-Layth — meaning Ibn Saʿd — narrated to us saying: Ibn Shihāb narrated to me, that Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām informed him that he heard Abū Masʿūd ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmr رضي الله عنه say: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prohibited the price of a dog, the earnings of a prostitute, and the fee of a soothsayer."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هِشَامُ بْنُ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الدَّسْتُوَائِيُّ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حَمَّادٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْجَدَلِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يُوتِرُ ‏ ‏أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ وَأَوْسَطَهُ وَآخِرَهُ ‏

Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn al-Muthannā narrated to us saying: Hishām ibn Abī ʿAbdillāh al-Dastuwāʾī narrated to us saying: Ḥammād narrated to us, from Ibrāhīm, from Abū ʿAbdillāh al-Jadalī, from Abū Masʿūd ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmr al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, who said: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to pray witr at the beginning of the night, its middle, and its end."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَعْقُوبُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبِي ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏ابْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏قَالَ وَحَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِذَا الْمَرْءُ الْمُسْلِمُ صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ فِي صَلَاتِهِ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيُّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ رَبِّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏أَخِي ‏ ‏بَلْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَقْبَلَ رَجُلٌ حَتَّى جَلَسَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَنَحْنُ عِنْدَهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَمَّا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ فَقَدْ عَرَفْنَاهُ فَكَيْفَ نُصَلِّي عَلَيْكَ إِذَا نَحْنُ صَلَّيْنَا فِي صَلَاتِنَا صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ قَالَ فَصَمَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏حَتَّى أَحْبَبْنَا أَنَّ الرَّجُلَ لَمْ يَسْأَلْهُ فَقَالَ إِذَا أَنْتُمْ صَلَّيْتُمْ عَلَيَّ فَقُولُوا ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَى آلِ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَى ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏وَآلِ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏وَبَارِكْ عَلَى ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَى ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏وَعَلَى آلِ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ‏

Yaʿqūb narrated to us, my father narrated to us, from Ibn Isḥāq, who said: Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm ibn al-Ḥārith al-Taymī narrated to me — regarding the ṣalāh upon the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ when a Muslim sends ṣalāh upon him in his prayer — from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Zayd ibn ʿAbd Rabbihi al-Anṣārī, brother of Balḥārith ibn al-Khazraj, from Abū Masʿūd ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmr رضي الله عنه, who said: A man came and sat before the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ while we were with him and said: "O Messenger of Allāh, as for sending salām upon you, we know that. But how do we send ṣalāh upon you when we pray upon you in our prayer, may Allāh send ṣalāh upon you?" He said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was silent until we wished the man had not asked him. Then he said: "When you send ṣalāh upon me, say: O Allāh, send ṣalāh upon Muḥammad, the unlettered Prophet, and upon the family of Muḥammad, as You sent ṣalāh upon Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm. And bless Muḥammad, the unlettered Prophet, as You blessed Ibrāhīm and the family of Ibrāhīm. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ التَّيْمِيَّ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ الْأَزْدِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏لَا تُجْزِئُ صَلَاةٌ لِرَجُلٍ أَوْ لِأَحَدٍ لَا ‏ ‏يُقِيمُ ‏ ‏ظَهْرَهُ فِي الرُّكُوعِ وَالسُّجُودِ ‏

Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Sulaymān, who said: I heard ʿUmārah ibn ʿUmayr al-Taymī narrating from Abū Maʿmar al-Azdī, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "The prayer of a man — or anyone — who does not straighten his back in rukūʿ and sujūd is not valid."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو أُوَيْسٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ قَالَ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيُّ ‏ ‏إِنَّ ‏ ‏أَبَا بَكْرِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ ‏ ‏أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ‏ ‏صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَخَا ‏ ‏بَنِي الْحَارِثِ بْنِ الْخَزْرَجِ ‏ ‏وَهُوَ جَدُّ ‏ ‏زَيْدِ بْنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ‏ ‏أَبُو أُمِّهِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَهُ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏نَهَاهُمْ عَنْ ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ وَمَهْرِ ‏ ‏الْبَغِيِّ ‏ ‏وَحُلْوَانِ ‏ ‏الْكَاهِنِ ‏

Ibrāhīm ibn Abī al-ʿAbbās narrated to us, Abū Uways narrated to us, who said: al-Zuhrī said that Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām ibn al-Mughīrah narrated to him that Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, the Companion of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, brother of Banū al-Ḥārith ibn al-Khazraj — and he is the grandfather of Zayd ibn al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib [from] his mother's side — narrated to him that the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prohibited them from the price of a dog, the earnings of a prostitute, and the fee of a soothsayer.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ ابْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي قِلَابَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قِيلَ لَهُ مَا سَمِعْتَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ فِي زَعَمُوا قَالَ ‏ ‏بِئْسَ ‏ ‏مَطِيَّةُ ‏ ‏الرَّجُلِ ‏

ʿAlī ibn Isḥāq narrated to us, ʿAbdullāh — who is Ibn al-Mubārak — narrated to us saying: al-Awzāʿī narrated to us, from Yaḥyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from Abū Qilābah, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, who was asked: "What did you hear the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say regarding zaʿamū [they claimed]?" He said: "What a wretched riding mount for a man [is the word 'they claimed']."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَفَّانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏هَمَّامٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سَالِمٌ الْبَرَّادُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏وَكَانَ عِنْدِي أَوْثَقَ مِنْ نَفْسِي ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ لَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ الْبَدْرِيُّ ‏ ‏أَلَا أُصَلِّي لَكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏فَكَبَّرَ فَرَكَعَ فَوَضَعَ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَفُصِلَتْ أَصَابِعُهُ عَلَى سَاقَيْهِ ‏ ‏وَجَافَى ‏ ‏عَنْ إِبْطَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ ‏ ‏فَاسْتَوَى ‏ ‏قَائِمًا حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ ‏ ‏وَجَافَى ‏ ‏عَنْ إِبْطَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ ‏ ‏فَاسْتَوَى ‏ ‏جَالِسًا حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ الثَّانِيَةَ فَصَلَّى بِنَا أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ هَكَذَا ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا كَانَتْ صَلَاةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَوْ قَالَ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏صَلَّى ‏

ʿAffān narrated to us, Hammām narrated to us, ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib narrated to us, who said: Sālim al-Barrād narrated to us — and he said: he was more trustworthy in my estimation than myself — who said: Abū Masʿūd al-Badrī said to us: "Shall I not pray for you the prayer of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ?" He said: So he said takbīr, then bowed and placed his palms on his knees with his fingers spread over his shins, and he held his arms away from his sides until every part of him settled. Then he said: 'Samiʿa Allāhu liman ḥamidah,' and stood upright until every part of him settled. Then he said takbīr and prostrated, holding his arms away from his sides until every part of him settled. Then he raised his head and sat upright until every part of him settled. Then he prostrated a second time. He prayed four rakʿahs for us like this, then said: 'This is how the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to pray' — or he said: 'This is how I saw the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ pray.'

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ‏ ‏قَيْسَ بْنَ أَبِي حَازِمٍ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ فُلَانًا يُطِيلُ بِنَا الصَّلَاةَ حَتَّى إِنِّي لَأَتَأَخَّرُ فَغَضِبَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏غَضَبًا مَا رَأَيْتُهُ غَضِبَ فِي مَوْعِظَةٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ فِيكُمْ مُنَفِّرِينَ فَمَنْ أَمَّ قَوْمًا فَلْيُخَفِّفْ بِهِمْ الصَّلَاةَ فَإِنَّ وَرَاءَهُ الْكَبِيرَ وَالْمَرِيضَ وَذَا ‏ ‏الْحَاجَةِ ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl, that he heard Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim narrating from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, that a man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allāh, so-and-so makes our prayer so long that I hold back [from attending]." The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ became angry — an anger the like of which I never saw in an admonition — and the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Indeed, among you are those who drive others away! Whoever leads a people in prayer, let him shorten the prayer for them, for behind him are the elderly, the sick, and those with needs."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا بْنِ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏أَبِي ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَامِرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏انْطَلَقَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَمَعَهُ ‏ ‏الْعَبَّاسُ ‏ ‏عَمُّهُ إِلَى السَّبْعِينَ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْأَنْصَارِ ‏ ‏عِنْدَ ‏ ‏الْعَقَبَةِ ‏ ‏تَحْتَ الشَّجَرَةِ فَقَالَ لِيَتَكَلَّمْ مُتَكَلِّمُكُمْ وَلَا يُطِيلُ الْخُطْبَةَ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنْ الْمُشْرِكِينَ عَيْنًا وَإِنْ يَعْلَمُوا بِكُمْ يَفْضَحُوكُمْ فَقَالَ قَائِلُهُمْ وَهُوَ ‏ ‏أَبُو أُمَامَةَ ‏ ‏سَلْ يَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ ‏ ‏لِرَبِّكَ مَا شِئْتَ ثُمَّ سَلْ لِنَفْسِكَ وَلِأَصْحَابِكَ مَا شِئْتَ ثُمَّ أَخْبِرْنَا مَا لَنَا ‏ ‏مِنْ الثَّوَابِ عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَعَلَيْكُمْ إِذَا فَعَلْنَا ذَلِكَ قَالَ فَقَالَ ‏ ‏أَسْأَلُكُمْ لِرَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنْ تَعْبُدُوهُ وَلَا تُشْرِكُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا وَأَسْأَلُكُمْ لِنَفْسِي وَلِأَصْحَابِي أَنْ تُؤْوُونَا وَتَنْصُرُونَا وَتَمْنَعُونَا مِمَّا مَنَعْتُمْ مِنْهُ أَنْفُسَكُمْ قَالُوا فَمَا لَنَا إِذَا فَعَلْنَا ذَلِكَ قَالَ لَكُمْ الْجَنَّةُ قَالُوا فَلَكَ ذَلِكَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُجَالِدٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَامِرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏نَحْوَ هَذَا ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏وَكَانَ ‏ ‏أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏أَصْغَرَهُمْ سِنًّا ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ زَكَرِيَّا ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏الشَّعْبِيَّ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏مَا سَمِعَ الشِّيبُ وَلَا الشُّبَّانُ خُطْبَةً مِثْلَهَا ‏

Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyyā ibn Abī Zāʾidah narrated to us, my father narrated to me, from ʿĀmir, who said: the Prophet ﷺ went out with his uncle al-ʿAbbās to the seventy from the Anṣār at al-ʿAqabah, under the tree. He said: "Let your spokesman speak, and let him not prolong the speech, for upon you from the mushrikīn there are spies, and if they discover you, they will expose you." So their spokesman — who was Abū Umāmah — said: "Ask, O Muḥammad, for your Lord whatever you wish, then ask for yourself and your companions whatever you wish, then tell us what reward we shall have from Allāh عز وجل and from you if we do that." He said: "I ask you for my Lord عز وجل that you worship Him and associate nothing with Him. And I ask you for myself and my companions that you shelter us, support us, and defend us from what you defend yourselves from." They said: "And what is ours if we do that?" He said: "For you is Paradise." They said: "Then that is yours." Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyyā narrated to us saying: Mujālid narrated to us, from ʿĀmir, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī — with something similar. He said: And Abū Masʿūd was the youngest of them. Yaḥyā ibn Zakariyyā narrated to us, Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated to us, who said: I heard al-Shaʿbī say: "Neither the elderly nor the young ever heard a speech like it."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏حُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏زَائِدَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَطَاءِ بْنِ السَّائِبِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَالِمٍ أَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ‏ ‏أَلَا ‏ ‏أُرِيكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏فَقَامَ وَكَبَّرَ ثُمَّ رَكَعَ ‏ ‏وَجَافَى ‏ ‏يَدَيْهِ وَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَى رُكْبَتَيْهِ وَفَرَّجَ بَيْنَ أَصَابِعِهِ مِنْ وَرَاءِ رُكْبَتَيْهِ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَامَ حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ ‏ ‏فَجَافَى ‏ ‏حَتَّى اسْتَقَرَّ كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مِنْهُ قَالَ فَصَلَّى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ هَكَذَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يُصَلِّي ‏ ‏أَوْ هَكَذَا كَانَ ‏ ‏يُصَلِّي بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏

Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī narrated to us, from Zāʾidah, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from Sālim Abū ʿAbdillāh, who said: ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmr said: "Shall I not show you the prayer of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ?" He said: So he stood and said takbīr, then bowed, holding his arms apart, and placed his hands on his knees with his fingers spread behind his knees, until every part of him settled. Then he raised his head and stood until every part of him settled. Then he prostrated, holding his arms apart, until every part of him settled. He prayed four rakʿahs, then said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ pray" — or: "This is how the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to pray with us."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَفَّانُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏عَدِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قُلْتُ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ إِذَا أَنْفَقَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ نَفَقَةً وَهُوَ ‏ ‏يَحْتَسِبُهَا ‏ ‏كَانَتْ لَهُ ‏ ‏صَدَقَةً ‏

ʿAffān narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, ʿAdī ibn Thābit informed me, who said: I heard ʿAbdullāh ibn Yazīd narrating from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه — I said: from the Prophet ﷺ? He said: from the Prophet ﷺ — who said: "When a Muslim spends on his family, counting it as an act seeking Allāh's reward, it is counted as charity for him."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَقِيقٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏حُوسِبَ رَجُلٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ فَلَمْ يُوجَدْ لَهُ مِنْ الْخَيْرِ شَيْءٌ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ كَانَ رَجُلًا مُوسِرًا وَكَانَ يُخَالِطُ النَّاسَ فَكَانَ يَقُولُ لِغِلْمَانِهِ ‏ ‏تَجَاوَزُوا ‏ ‏عَنْ الْمُعْسِرِ قَالَ فَقَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لِمَلَائِكَتِهِ ‏ ‏نَحْنُ أَحَقُّ بِذَلِكَ مِنْهُ ‏ ‏تَجَاوَزُوا ‏ ‏عَنْهُ ‏

Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from Shaqīq, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "A man from those before you was brought to account, and nothing good was found for him except that he was a wealthy man who used to mix with people, and he would tell his servants: 'Overlook the debts of the destitute.' So Allāh عز وجل said to His angels: 'We are more deserving of that than he is. Pardon him.'"

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏وَيَعْلَى ‏ ‏وَمُحَمَّدٌ ‏ ‏يَعْنِي ابْنَيْ ‏ ‏عُبَيْدٍ ‏ ‏قَالُوا أَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَتَى النَّبِيَّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُبْدِعَ بِي فَاحْمِلْنِي قَالَ مَا عِنْدِي مَا أَحْمِلُكَ عَلَيْهِ وَلَكِنْ ائْتِ فُلَانًا فَأَتَاهُ فَحَمَلَهُ فَأَتَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَأَخْبَرَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ دَلَّ عَلَى خَيْرٍ فَلَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ فَاعِلِهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدٌ ‏ ‏فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ بُدِعَ بِي ‏

Ibn Numayr, Yaʿlā, and Muḥammad — meaning the two sons of ʿUbayd — narrated to us, they said: al-Aʿmash informed us, from Abū ʿAmr al-Shaybānī, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, who said: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "My mount has broken down, so give me a ride." He said: "I do not have anything to carry you on, but go to so-and-so." So he went to him, and he gave him a mount. Then he came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and told him, and the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Whoever guides to something good has a reward like that of the one who does it." Muḥammad said: "His mount had indeed broken down."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَقِيقٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏رَجُلٍ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْأَنْصَارِ ‏ ‏يُكَنَّى ‏ ‏أَبَا شُعَيْبٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَعَرَفْتُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْجُوعَ فَأَتَيْتُ غُلَامًا لِي قَصَّابًا فَأَمَرْتُهُ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ لَنَا طَعَامًا لِخَمْسَةِ رِجَالٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ دَعَوْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏خَامِسَ خَمْسَةٍ وَتَبِعَهُمْ رَجُلٌ فَلَمَّا ‏ ‏بَلَغَ ‏ ‏رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏الْبَابَ قَالَ ‏ ‏هَذَا قَدْ تَبِعَنَا إِنْ شِئْتَ أَنْ تَأْذَنَ لَهُ وَإِلَّا رَجَعَ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُبْدِعَ بِي أَيْ انْقَطَعَ بِي فَاحْمِلْنِي فَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ ‏

Ibn Numayr narrated to us, al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from Shaqīq, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, from a man of the Anṣār whose kunyah was Abū Shuʿayb, who said: I came to the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ and recognized hunger in his face. So I went to a servant of mine who was a butcher and ordered him to prepare food for five men. Then I invited the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ as the fifth of five, but a [sixth] man followed them. When the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ reached the door, he said: "This man has followed us. If you wish, give him permission, and if not, he will go back." So he gave him permission. ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Sufyān informed us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū ʿAmr al-Shaybānī, from Abū Masʿūd, who said: A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "My mount has broken down — meaning I am stranded — so give me a ride," and he mentioned the ḥadīth.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِيهِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏بَيْنَا أَنَا أَضْرِبُ غُلَامًا لِي إِذْ سَمِعْتُ صَوْتًا مِنْ وَرَائِي اعْلَمْ ‏ ‏أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏ثَلَاثًا فَالْتَفَتُّ فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ ‏ ‏وَاللَّهِ لَلَّهُ أَقْدَرُ عَلَيْكَ مِنْكَ عَلَى هَذَا قَالَ فَحَلَفْتُ أَنْ لَا أَضْرِبَ مَمْلُوكًا أَبَدًا ‏

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Ibrāhīm al-Taymī, from his father, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, who said: While I was beating a slave of mine, I heard a voice from behind me: "Know, O Abū Masʿūd!" — three times. I turned around and there was the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, who said: "By Allāh, Allāh has more power over you than you have over this one." He said: So I swore that I would never beat a slave again.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ثَمَنِ الْكَلْبِ وَعَنْ مَهْرِ ‏ ‏الْبَغِيِّ ‏ ‏وَعَنْ ‏ ‏حُلْوَانِ ‏ ‏الْكَاهِنِ ‏

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Maʿmar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Bakr ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Ḥārith ibn Hishām, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, who said: "The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prohibited the price of a dog, the earnings of a prostitute, and the fee of a soothsayer."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مَعْمَرٌ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الزُّهْرِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنَّا مَعَ ‏ ‏عُمَرَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ‏ ‏فَأَخَّرَ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ مَرَّةً فَقَالَ لَهُ ‏ ‏عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏بَشِيرُ بْنُ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ ‏ ‏أَنَّ ‏ ‏الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ ‏ ‏أَخَّرَ الصَّلَاةَ مَرَّةً ‏ ‏يَعْنِي الْعَصْرَ ‏ ‏فَقَالَ لَهُ ‏ ‏أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏أَمَا وَاللَّهِ يَا ‏ ‏مُغِيرَةُ ‏ ‏لَقَدْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّ ‏ ‏جِبْرِيلَ ‏ ‏عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام ‏ ‏نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى وَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَصَلَّى النَّاسُ مَعَهُ ثُمَّ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَصَلَّى النَّاسُ مَعَهُ حَتَّى عَدَّ خَمْسَ صَلَوَاتٍ فَقَالَ لَهُ ‏ ‏عُمَرُ ‏ ‏انْظُرْ مَا تَقُولُ يَا ‏ ‏عُرْوَةُ ‏ ‏أَوَإِنَّ ‏ ‏جِبْرِيلَ ‏ ‏هُوَ ‏ ‏سَنَّ ‏ ‏الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ ‏ ‏عُرْوَةُ ‏ ‏كَذَلِكَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏بَشِيرُ بْنُ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏فَمَا زَالَ ‏ ‏عُمَرُ ‏ ‏يَتَعَلَّمُ وَقْتَ الصَّلَاةِ بِعَلَامَةٍ حَتَّى فَارَقَ الدُّنْيَا ‏

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Maʿmar narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, who said: We were with ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz when he once delayed the ʿAṣr prayer. ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr said to him: Bashīr ibn Abī Masʿūd al-Anṣārī narrated to me that al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah once delayed the prayer — meaning ʿAṣr. So Abū Masʿūd said to him: "By Allāh, O Mughīrah, you know well that Jibrīl عليه السلام descended and prayed, and the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prayed, and the people prayed with him. Then he descended again and the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ prayed, and the people prayed with him" — until he counted five prayers. ʿUmar said to him: "Be careful about what you are saying, O ʿUrwah! Was it indeed Jibrīl who established the prayer times?" ʿUrwah said: "That is what Bashīr ibn Abī Masʿūd narrated to me." And ʿUmar continued to learn the prayer times by landmarks until he departed from this world.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏رِبْعِيَّ بْنَ حِرَاشٍ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ مِمَّا أَدْرَكَ النَّاسُ مِنْ كَلَامِ النُّبُوَّةِ الْأُولَى إِذَا لَمْ تَسْتَحْيِ فَاصْنَعْ مَا شِئْتَ ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us saying: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Manṣūr, who said: I heard Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh narrating from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Among what people have retained from the words of the earliest prophethood is: 'If you have no shame, then do as you wish.'"

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏وَحَجَّاجٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ أَنْبَأَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كُنْتُ أُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏حَدِيثًا فَلَقِيتُهُ وَهُوَ يَطُوفُ ‏ ‏بِالْبَيْتِ ‏ ‏فَسَأَلْتُهُ فَحَدَّثَ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏مَنْ قَرَأَ الْآيَتَيْنِ الْآخِرَتَيْنِ مِنْ سُورَةِ ‏ ‏الْبَقَرَةِ ‏ ‏فِي لَيْلَةٍ ‏ ‏كَفَتَاهُ ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us saying: Shuʿbah narrated to us — and Ḥajjāj said: Shuʿbah informed us — from Manṣūr, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd, who said: I used to narrate a ḥadīth from Abū Masʿūd, and then I met him while he was performing ṭawāf around the Kaʿbah, so I asked him and he narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Sūrat al-Baqarah in a night, they will suffice him."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَوْسَ بْنَ ضَمْعَجٍ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏يَقُولُ ‏ ‏قَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى وَأَقْدَمُهُمْ قِرَاءَةً فَإِنْ كَانَتْ قِرَاءَتُهُمْ سَوَاءً فَلْيَؤُمَّهُمْ أَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَلْيَؤُمَّهُمْ أَكْبَرُهُمْ سِنًّا وَلَا يُؤَمَّنَّ الرَّجُلُ فِي أَهْلِهِ وَلَا فِي سُلْطَانِهِ وَلَا يُجْلَسُ عَلَى ‏ ‏تَكْرِمَتِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْذَنَ لَهُ أَوْ بِإِذْنِهِ ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Rajāʾ, who said: I heard Aws ibn Ḍamʿaj say: I heard Abū Masʿūd say: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said to us: "The people should be led in prayer by the one who has the most knowledge of the Book of Allāh تعالى and the most senior in recitation. If their recitation is equal, then by the one who emigrated earliest. If their emigration is equal, then by the eldest among them. A man should not be led in prayer in his own domain [of authority], nor in his own household, nor should one sit in his place of honor in his house unless he gives permission or by his permission."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا وَائِلٍ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَجُلًا مِنْ قَوْمِهِ يُقَالُ لَهُ ‏ ‏أَبُو شُعَيْبٍ ‏ ‏صَنَعَ طَعَامًا فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏ائْتِنِي أَنْتَ وَخَمْسَةٌ مَعَكَ قَالَ فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْهِ أَنْ ائْذَنْ لِي فِي السَّادِسِ ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us saying: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Sulaymān, who said: I heard Abū Wāʾil narrating from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, that a man from his people called Abū Shuʿayb prepared food and sent word to the Prophet ﷺ: "Come, you and five with you." He said: Then he sent to him asking permission for a sixth.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيَّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏أَنَّ رَجُلًا تَصَدَّقَ بِنَاقَةٍ ‏ ‏مَخْطُومَةٍ ‏ ‏فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَتَأْتِيَنَّ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ بِسَبْعِ مِائَةِ نَاقَةٍ ‏ ‏مَخْطُومَةٍ ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Sulaymān, who said: I heard Abū ʿAmr al-Shaybānī, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, that a man donated a haltered she-camel in the cause of Allāh. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "You will surely come on the Day of Resurrection with seven hundred haltered she-camels."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَلْقَمَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مَنْ قَرَأَ الْآيَتَيْنِ مِنْ ‏ ‏الْبَقَرَةِ ‏ ‏فِي لَيْلَةٍ ‏ ‏كَفَتَاهُ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏فَلَقِيتُ ‏ ‏أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏فَحَدَّثَنِي بِهِ ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us saying: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Sulaymān, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, from ʿAlqamah, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Whoever recites the [last] two verses of al-Baqarah in a night, they will suffice him." ʿAbd al-Raḥmān said: Then I met Abū Masʿūd, and he narrated it to me [directly].

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏جَرِيرٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏مَنْ قَرَأَ الْآيَتَيْنِ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ ‏ ‏الْبَقَرَةِ ‏ ‏فِي لَيْلَةٍ ‏ ‏كَفَتَاهُ ‏

Jarīr narrated to us, from Manṣūr, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Sūrat al-Baqarah in a night, they will suffice him."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لِيَؤُمَّ ‏ ‏الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالسُّنَّةِ فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي السُّنَّةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَكْبَرُهُمْ سِنًّا وَلَا يُؤَمَّنَّ رَجُلٌ فِي سُلْطَانِهِ وَلَا يُجْلَسْ عَلَى ‏ ‏تَكْرِمَتِهِ ‏ ‏إِلَّا أَنْ يَأْذَنَ ‏

Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us saying: al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from Ismāʿīl ibn Rajāʾ, from Aws ibn Ḍamʿaj, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The people should be led in prayer by the one who has the most knowledge of the Book of Allāh تعالى. If they are equal in recitation, then by the most knowledgeable of the Sunnah. If they are equal in the Sunnah, then by the one who emigrated earliest. If they are equal in emigration, then by the eldest. A man should not be led in prayer in his own domain [of authority], nor should one sit in his place of honor unless he gives permission."

Rawḥ narrated to us saying: Shuʿbah and al-Thawrī narrated to us, they said: Manṣūr narrated to us, from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh, who said: I heard Abū Masʿūd ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmr al-Badrī say: the Prophet ﷺ of Allāh ﷺ said: "Among what people have retained from the words of the earliest prophethood is: 'If you have no shame, then do as you wish.'"

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شُعْبَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ رَجَاءٍ ‏ ‏وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عُلَيَّةَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللَّهِ وَأَقْدَمُهُمْ قِرَاءَةً فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً فَأَكْبَرُهُمْ سِنًّا وَلَا يُؤَمَّنَّ الرَّجُلُ فِي سُلْطَانِهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏وَلَا فِي أَهْلِهِ وَلَا يُجْلَسُ عَلَى ‏ ‏تَكْرِمَتِهِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏فِي بَيْتِهِ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ‏ ‏أَوْ يَأْذَنَ لَكَ ‏

Yaḥyā narrated to us, from Shuʿbah, who said: Ismāʿīl ibn Rajāʾ narrated to me — and Ismāʿīl, meaning Ibn ʿUlayyah — Shuʿbah said: from Ismāʿīl ibn Rajāʾ, from Aws ibn Ḍamʿaj, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "The people should be led in prayer by the one who has the most knowledge of the Book of Allāh and the most senior in recitation. If they are equal in recitation, then by the one who emigrated earliest. If they are equal in emigration, then by the eldest. A man should not be led in prayer in his own domain." Ismāʿīl added: "nor in his own household, nor should one sit in his place of honor" — Ismāʿīl said: "in his house, unless by his permission or he gives you permission."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى ‏ ‏وَعَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏عَنِ ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشِ ‏ ‏وَمَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏وَوَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏سُفْيَانُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏إِبْرَاهِيمَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَمْرٍو ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏مَنْ قَرَأَ الْآيَتَيْنِ مِنْ آخِرِ سُورَةِ ‏ ‏الْبَقَرَةِ ‏ ‏فِي لَيْلَةٍ ‏ ‏كَفَتَاهُ ‏

Yaḥyā and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān narrated to us, from Sufyān, from al-Aʿmash and Manṣūr, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd, from Abū Masʿūd, from the Prophet ﷺ — and Wakīʿ said: Sufyān narrated to us, from Manṣūr, from Ibrāhīm, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Yazīd, from ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmr, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Whoever recites the last two verses of Sūrat al-Baqarah in a night, they will suffice him."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏وَيَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ‏ ‏أَخْبَرَنَا ‏ ‏إِسْمَاعِيلُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏قَيْسٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏يَزِيدُ ‏ ‏وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ ‏ ‏وَلَكِنَّهُمَا آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللَّهِ تَعَالَى فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُمَا فَصَلُّوا ‏

Ismāʿīl — and Yazīd ibn Hārūn said: Ismāʿīl informed us — from Qays, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of anyone's death" — Yazīd added: "nor because of anyone's life — but they are two signs among the signs of Allāh تعالى. So when you see them, pray."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏وَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏وَأَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ التَّيْمِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَخْبَرَةَ الْأَزْدِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏يَمْسَحُ مَنَاكِبَنَا فِي الصَّلَاةِ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏وَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏وَيَقُولُ اسْتَوُوا وَلَا تَخْتَلِفُوا ‏ ‏فَتَخْتَلِفَ قُلُوبُكُمْ لِيَلِيَنِّي مِنْكُمْ أُولُو ‏ ‏الْأَحْلَامِ ‏ ‏وَالنُّهَى ‏ ‏ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ثُمَّ الَّذِينَ يَلُونَهُمْ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏فَأَنْتُمْ الْيَوْمَ أَشَدُّ اخْتِلَافًا ‏

Wakīʿ and Abū Muʿāwiyah narrated to us, they said: al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from ʿUmārah ibn ʿUmayr al-Taymī, from Abū Maʿmar ʿAbdullāh ibn Sakhbarah al-Azdī, from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ used to touch our shoulders during prayer — Wakīʿ said — and would say: "Straighten your rows and do not differ, lest your hearts differ. Let those of you who are mature and intelligent stand closest to me, then those next to them, then those next to them." Abū Masʿūd said: "Today you differ even more."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏وَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏وَابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏الْأَعْمَشُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَعْمَرٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏ابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏لَا تُجْزِئُ صَلَاةٌ لِأَحَدٍ لَا يُقِيمُ فِيهَا ظَهْرَهُ فِي الرُّكُوعِ وَالسُّجُودِ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏سُلَيْمَانَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏عُمَارَةَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ ‏ ‏مِثْلَهُ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏وَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ ‏ ‏فَذَكَرَهُ ‏

Wakīʿ narrated to us, al-Aʿmash narrated to us — and Ibn Numayr said: al-Aʿmash narrated to us — and Ibn Abī Zāʾidah narrated to us, al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from ʿUmārah ibn ʿUmayr, from Abū Maʿmar, from Abū Masʿūd — Ibn Abī Zāʾidah said: al-Anṣārī — who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "The prayer of anyone who does not straighten his back in rukūʿ and sujūd is not valid." Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, who said: I heard Sulaymān, who said: I heard ʿUmārah ibn ʿUmayr — with the same. Wakīʿ narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Salamah ibn Kuhayl, and he mentioned it.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏وَكِيعٌ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي قَيْسٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ ‏ ‏تَعْدِلُ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ ‏

Wakīʿ narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Abū Qays, from ʿAmr ibn Maymūn, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "'Say: He is Allāh, the One' [Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ] equals one-third of the Qurʾān."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏رِبْعِيِّ بْنِ حِرَاشٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ مِمَّا أَدْرَكَ النَّاسُ مِنْ كَلَامِ النُّبُوَّةِ الْأُولَى إِذَا لَمْ تَسْتَحْيِ فَافْعَلْ مَا شِئْتَ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏مَنْصُورٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏رِبْعِيَّ بْنَ حِرَاشٍ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏فَذَكَرَ مِثْلَهُ ‏

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Manṣūr, from Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Among what people have retained from the words of the earliest prophethood is: 'If you have no shame, then do as you wish.'" Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from Manṣūr, who said: I heard Ribʿī ibn Ḥirāsh narrating from Abū Masʿūd al-Anṣārī, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said — and he mentioned the same.

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ هُوَ ابْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏سُفْيَانَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي قَيْسٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏أَيَعْجَزُ أَحَدُكُمْ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ اللَّهُ الْوَاحِدُ الصَّمَدُ ‏

ʿAbd al-Raḥmān — who is Ibn Mahdī — narrated to us, from Sufyān, from Abū Qays, from ʿAmr ibn Maymūn, from Abū Masʿūd رضي الله عنه, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "Is any of you unable to recite one-third of the Qurʾān in a night? [It is] Allāh, the One, the Eternal Refuge [i.e., Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ]."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ ‏ ‏وَبَهْزٌ ‏ ‏قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏شُعْبَةُ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏عَدِيِّ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَمِعْتُ ‏ ‏عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ ‏ ‏يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ ‏ ‏أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ ‏ ‏قَالَ ‏ ‏بَهْزٌ الْبَدْرِيِّ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏أَنَّهُ قَالَ ‏ ‏إِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ إِذَا أَنْفَقَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ نَفَقَةً وَهُوَ ‏ ‏يَحْتَسِبُهَا ‏ ‏كَانَتْ لَهُ ‏ ‏صَدَقَةً ‏

Muḥammad ibn Jaʿfar and Bahz narrated to us, they said: Shuʿbah narrated to us, from ʿAdī ibn Thābit, who said: I heard ʿAbdullāh ibn Yazīd al-Anṣārī narrating from Abū Masʿūd — Bahz said: al-Badrī — from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said: "When a Muslim spends on his family, counting it as an act seeking Allāh's reward, it is counted as charity for him."

‏ ‏حَدَّثَنَا ‏ ‏يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏حُسَيْنٍ الْمُعَلِّمِ ‏ ‏قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ‏ ‏عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُرَيْدَةَ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏بُشَيْرِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ ‏ ‏شَدَّادِ بْنِ أَوْسٍ ‏ ‏عَنْ النَّبِيِّ ‏ ‏صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ‏ ‏قَالَ سَيِّدُ ‏ ‏الِاسْتِغْفَارِ أَنْ يَقُولَ الْعَبْدُ ‏ ‏اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ رَبِّي لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ خَلَقْتَنِي وَأَنَا عَبْدُكَ وَأَنَا عَلَى عَهْدِكَ وَوَعْدِكَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُ ‏ ‏أَبُوءُ ‏ ‏لَكَ بِالنِّعْمَةِ ‏ ‏وَأَبُوءُ ‏ ‏لَكَ بِذَنْبِي فَاغْفِرْ لِي إِنَّهُ لَا يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلَّا أَنْتَ قَالَ إِنْ قَالَهَا بَعْدَمَا يُصْبِحُ ‏ ‏مُوقِنًا ‏ ‏بِهَا ثُمَّ مَاتَ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ وَإِنْ قَالَهَا بَعْدَمَا يُمْسِي ‏ ‏مُوقِنًا ‏ ‏بِهَا ثُمَّ مَاتَ كَانَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْجَنَّةِ ‏

Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, from Ḥusayn al-Muʿallim, who said: ʿAbdullāh ibn Buraydah narrated to me, from Bushayr ibn Kaʿb, from Shaddād ibn Aws رضي الله عنه, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said: "The master of istighfār [seeking forgiveness] is that the servant says: 'O Allāh, You are my Lord. There is no god but You. You created me and I am Your servant. I am upon Your covenant and Your promise as best I can. I acknowledge before You Your blessings upon me, and I acknowledge before You my sins. So forgive me, for none forgives sins but You.' If he says it after the morning with certainty and then dies, he will be among the people of Paradise. And if he says it after the evening with certainty and then dies, he will be among the people of Paradise."
