English Translation

Wahb ibn Jarīr narrated to us, my father narrated to us, who said: I heard ʿAbdullāh ibn Malādh, from Numayr ibn Aws, from Mālik ibn Masrūḥ, from ʿĀmir ibn Abī ʿĀmir al-Ashʿarī, from his father, from the Prophet ﷺ who said: "What an excellent tribe are the Asad and the Ashʿarīs! They do not flee in battle nor do they steal from war booty. They are from me and I am from them." ʿĀmir said: "I narrated this to Muʿāwiyah and he said: 'That is not what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said. He only said: They are from me and to me.' I said: 'That is not how my father narrated it to me from the Prophet ﷺ. Rather he said: They are from me and I am from them.' He said: 'Then you know your father's hadith better.'"
