English Translation
Wakīʿ narrated to us, al-Masʿūdī narrated to us, from ʿUmar ibn Yaʿlā al-Thaqafī, from Yaʿlā ibn Murrah, who said: "the Prophet ﷺ, when he stood for prayer, used to wipe the faces of his Companions before saying the takbīr. I had some khalūq perfume on me, so the Prophet ﷺ wiped the faces of his Companions but skipped me." He said: "So I went back and washed it off, then came to the next prayer, and he wiped my face and said: 'He has returned to the goodness of his religion — the Most High has accepted his repentance, and the sky has poured forth.'"
