English Translation

Wakīʿ narrated to us, Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-Muraqqa' ibn Ṣayfī, from Ḥanẓalah the scribe who said: We went on a military expedition with the Prophet ﷺ and passed by a slain woman around whom people had gathered. They made way for him, and he said, 'She was not among those fighting.' Then he said to a man, 'Go to Khālid ibn al-Walīd and tell him that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commands you not to kill children or hired laborers.' Ḥusayn ibn Muḥammad narrated to us, Ibn Abī al-Zinād narrated to us, from his father who said: al-Muraqqa' ibn Ṣayfī ibn Rabāḥ, the brother of Ḥanẓalah the scribe, told me, saying: My grandfather told me that he went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ — and he mentioned the hadith. Ibrāhīm ibn Abī al-ʿAbbās narrated to us, Ibn Abī al-Zinād narrated to us, from Abū al-Zinād who said: al-Muraqqa' ibn Ṣayfī ibn Rabāḥ told me that his grandfather Rabāḥ ibn Rabīʿ told him — and he mentioned the hadith.
