Zayd ibn al-Ḥubāb narrated to us saying: ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Zayd narrated to me, ʿUbādah ibn Nusayy informed us, from Shaddād ibn Aws رضي الله عنه, that he wept. It was said to him: "What makes you weep?" He said: "Something I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say, and I remembered it, and it made me weep. I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: 'I fear for my Ummah shirk and the hidden desire.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allāh, will your Ummah commit shirk after you?' He said: 'Yes, but they will not worship the sun, nor the moon, nor stones, nor idols. Rather, they will show off in their deeds. And the hidden desire is that one of them begins fasting, but then a desire from his desires presents itself to him, so he breaks his fast.'"
