حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ قَالَ زَعَمَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ قَالَ قَالَ أَشَجُّ بْنُ عَصَرٍ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ فِيك
َ خُلَّتَيْنِ يُحِبُّهُمَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قُلْتُ مَا هُمَا قَالَ الْحِلْمُ وَالْحَيَاءُ قُلْتُ أَقَدِيمًا كَانَ فِيَّ أَمْ حَدِيثًا قَالَ بَلْ قَدِيمًا قُلْتُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَبَلَنِي عَلَى خُلَّتَيْنِ يُحِبُّهُمَا

English Translation
Al-Ashajj ibn ʿAṣr said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me: 'You possess two qualities that Allah عز وجل loves.' I said: 'What are they?' He said: 'Forbearance (ḥilm) and modesty (ḥayāʾ).' I said: 'Have they been in me since old or are they recent?' He said: 'They have been in you since old.' I said: 'Praise be to Allah who has instilled in me two qualities that He loves.'
