حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي خَبِيبُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُعَلَّى قَالَ كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي فَدَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَلَمْ أُجِبْهُ حَتَّى صَلَّيْتُ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي قَالَ أَلَمْ يَقُلْ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا ل
ِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ } ثُمَّ قَالَ لَأُعَلِّمَنَّكَ أَعْظَمَ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ مِنْ الْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ مِنْ الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ فَأَخَذَ بِيَدِي فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ مِنْ الْمَسْجِدِ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ قُلْتَ لَأُعَلِّمَنَّكَ أَعْظَمَ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ نَعَمْ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ

English Translation
Abū Saʿīd ibn al-Muʿallā رضي الله عنه narrated: I was praying, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me, but I did not answer him until I finished my prayer. Then I came to him, and he said: "What prevented you from coming to me?" I said: "O Messenger of Allah, I was praying." He said: "Did not Allah say: {O you who believe, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you}? [al-Anfāl: 24]." Then he said: "Shall I not teach you the greatest surah in the Quran before you leave the mosque?" He took my hand, and when we were about to exit, I said: "O Messenger of Allah, you said: 'I will teach you the greatest surah in the Quran.'" He said: "{All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds} [al-Fātiḥah] — it is the seven oft-repeated verses and the Mighty Quran that I was given."
