Abū al-Ashʿath al-Ṣanʿānī narrated: Yazīd ibn Muʿāwiyah sent us to Ibn al-Zubayr. When I arrived in Madīnah, I entered upon so-and-so — Ziyād forgot his name — who said: "The people have done what they have done. What do you think?" He said: "My beloved friend Abū al-Qāsim ﷺ advised me: 'If you encounter any of these tribulations, go to Uḥud and break the edge of your sword on it, then sit in your house. If someone enters upon you in your house, go to the inner room. If he enters upon you in the inner room, kneel on your knees and say: Bear my sin and your sin, and you will be among the inhabitants of the Fire — that is the recompense of the wrongdoers.' And I have already broken the edge of my sword and am sitting in my house."
