English Translation

Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn al-Aṣbahānī, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Maʿqil, from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah رضي الله عنه who said: We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and we had entered iḥrām for ʿUmrah. Then lice fell in my head, my beard, my eyebrows, and my mustache. News of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he sent for me and called me. When he saw me, he said: 'You have been afflicted with a trial and we were not aware. Call the barber.' When the barber came, he ordered him and he shaved me. He said: 'Can you afford a sacrificial animal?' I said: 'No.' He said: 'Then fast three days, or feed six poor persons — half a ṣāʿ of dates for each.' — ʿAffān narrated to us, Shuʿbah narrated to us, al-Ḥakam informed us, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah who said: 'It was revealed concerning me.' — ʿAffān narrated to us, Ḥammād narrated to us, from Dāwūd, from al-Shaʿbī, from Ibn Abī Laylā, from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah — this ḥadīth. — Hushaym narrated to us, Ashʿath informed us, from al-Shaʿbī, from ʿAbdullāh ibn Maʿqil, from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah — with something similar, except that he said: 'Feed the poor persons three ṣāʿs of dates among six poor persons.' — Ismāʿīl and Ibn Abī ʿAdī narrated to us, from Dāwūd, from al-Shaʿbī, from Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah. Ibn Abī ʿAdī said: 'Kaʿb entered iḥrām with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ' — and they both mentioned the ḥadīth, and both said: 'Three ṣāʿs of dates among six poor persons.'
