حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَذْكُرُهُ عَنْ سِمَاكٍ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ وَائِلٍ عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ قَالَ بَعَثَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى نَجْرَانَ قَالَ فَقَالُوا أَر
َأَيْتَ مَا تَقْرَءُونَ يَا أُخْتَ هَارُونَ وَمُوسَى قَبْلَ عِيسَى بِكَذَا وَكَذَا قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ فَذَكَرْتُ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَلَا أَخْبَرْتَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يُسَمَّوْنَ بِالْأَنْبِيَاءِ وَالصَّالِحِينَ قَبْلَهُمْ

English Translation
ʿAbdullāh ibn Idrīs narrated to us, he said: I heard my father mention it, from Simāk, from ʿAlqamah ibn Wāʾil, from al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah رضي الله عنه who said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to Najrān. They said: 'What about what you recite: "O sister of Hārūn" [Maryam 19:28]? Mūsā was before ʿĪsā by such-and-such time.' He said: So I returned and mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: 'Did you not tell them that they used to name themselves after the Prophet ﷺs and righteous people before them?'
