English Translation
Wakīʿ narrated to us, Sulaymān ibn al-Mughīrah narrated to us, from Ḥumayd ibn Hilāl, from Abū Burdah, from al-Mughīrah ibn Shuʿbah رضي الله عنه who said: I ate garlic, then came to the prayer place of the Prophet ﷺ and found he had preceded me by one rakʿah. When he prayed, I stood to make up (the missed rakʿah). He detected the smell of garlic and said: 'Whoever has eaten this vegetable, let him not come near our mosque until its smell has gone.' When I finished the prayer, I came to him and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have an excuse. Give me your hand.' He said: I found him, by Allah, easy-going. He gave me his hand and I placed it inside my sleeve to my chest. He found it bandaged and said: 'You have an excuse.'
