حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ يَقُولُ بَعَثَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ خُذْ عَلَيْكَ ثِيَابَكَ وَسِلَاحَكَ ثُمَّ ائْتِنِي فَأَتَيْتُهُ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَصَعَّدَ فِيَّ النَّظَرَ ثُمَّ طَأْطَأَهُ فَقَالَ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَبْعَثَكَ عَلَى جَيْشٍ فَيُسَلِّمَكَ اللَّهُ وَيُغْنِمَكَ وَأَرْغَبُ لَكَ مِنْ الْمَالِ رَغْبَةً صَالِحَةً قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا أَسْلَمْت
ُ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْمَالِ وَلَكِنِّي أَسْلَمْتُ رَغْبَةً فِي الْإِسْلَامِ وَأَنْ أَكُونَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا عَمْرُو نِعْمَ الْمَالُ الصَّالِحُ لِلْمَرْءِ الصَّالِحِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ الْعَاصِ يَقُولُ فَذَكَرَهُ وَقَالَ صَعَّدَ فِيَّ النَّظَرَ

English Translation
ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ said: the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for me and said: 'Put on your clothes and take your weapon, then come to me.' I came to him while he was performing wuḍūʾ. He looked up at me, then looked down, and said: 'I want to send you at the head of an army. Allah will keep you safe and grant you war spoils. And I wish for you a proper share of wealth.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I did not embrace Islam for the sake of wealth. I embraced Islam out of desire for Islam and to be with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' He said: 'O ʿAmr, how excellent is righteous wealth for a righteous man!'
