English Translation
Abū ʿAlī al-Hamdānī said: ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir accompanied us on a journey, but he would not lead us in prayer. We said to him: 'May Allah have mercy on you, will you not lead us in prayer when you are a Companion of Muḥammad ﷺ?' He said: 'No. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever leads the people in prayer and performs the prayer correctly and at its proper time, then the reward is for him and for them. But whoever falls short of that, then the burden is on him and not on them."'
