Hadith #109

حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْهَاشِمِيُّ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ قُلْتُ لِلْبَرَاءِ الرَّجُلُ يَحْمِلُ عَلَى الْمُشْرِكِينَ أَهُوَ مِمَّنْ أ
َلْقَى بِيَدِهِ إِلَى التَّهْلُكَةِ قَالَ لَا لِأَنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ بَعَثَ رَسُولَهُ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ { فَقَاتِلْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ لَا تُكَلَّفُ إِلَّا نَفْسَكَ } إِنَّمَا ذَاكَ فِي النَّفَقَةِ

English Translation
Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd al-Hāshimī narrated to us: Abū Bakr informed us, from Abū Isḥāq who said: I said to al-Barāʾ: 'Is a man who charges at the polytheists among those who cast themselves into destruction?' He said: 'No, because Allah عز وجل sent His Messenger ﷺ and said: {Fight in the way of Allah; you are not held responsible except for yourself.} That is only regarding expenditure.'
