English Translation

ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, Sufyān informed us, from Manṣūr, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd, from a man, from Kaʿb ibn Murrah al-Bahzī who said: I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, which part of the night is most heard [i.e., when supplications are most answered]?' He said: 'The depths of the latter part of the night.' He then said: 'Prayer is accepted until the dawn prayer is prayed, then there is no prayer until the sun rises the height of a spear or two. Then prayer is accepted until the shadow stands like a spear. Then there is no prayer until the sun passes its zenith. Then prayer is accepted until the sun is the height of a spear or two [from setting]. Then there is no prayer until the sun sets.' He said: 'When you wash your face, your sins fall from your face. When you wash your hands, your sins fall from your hands. When you wash your feet, your sins fall from your feet.'
