English Translation

Wakīʿ narrated to us, Hishām ibn Saʿd informed us, from Zayd ibn Aslam, from Ibn al-Adraʿ, who said: I was guarding the Prophet ﷺ one night. He went out for some need and saw me. He took my hand and we walked along. We passed by a man who was praying aloud with the Quran. the Prophet ﷺ said: "Perhaps he is showing off." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, he is praying aloud with the Quran." He let go of my hand and said: "You will not attain this matter through overpowering." Then another night, while I was guarding him, he went out for some need. He took my hand and we passed by a man praying with the Quran. I said: "Perhaps he is showing off." the Prophet ﷺ said: "Not at all — he is one who constantly turns to Allah in repentance (awwāb)." I looked, and it was ʿAbd Allāh Dhū al-Bijādayn.
