English Translation

Jarīr narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said to him: 'Will you not relieve me of Dhū al-Khalasah?' It was a shrine belonging to Khathʿam that had been worshipped in the Jāhiliyyah, called the Kaʿbah of Yemen. So we set out with fifty — or one hundred and fifty — riders. We demolished it — or burned it — until we left it like a mangy camel. Then Jarīr sent a messenger to the Prophet ﷺ to give him the good news. When he came, he said: 'By the One who sent you with the truth, O Messenger of Allah, I did not come to you until we left it like a mangy camel.' So the Prophet ﷺ blessed Aḥmas, its cavalry, and its men five times. Jarīr said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I am a man who cannot stay firm on horseback.' So the Prophet ﷺ placed his hand on my face until I felt its coolness, and said: 'O Allah, make him a guide, rightly guided.'
