حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ آدَمَ وَيَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ زَيْدَ بْنَ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ عَمِّي فِي غَزَاةٍ فَسَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أُبَيٍّ ابْنِ سَلُولَ يَقُولُ لِأَصْحَابِهِ لَا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَلَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الْأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الْأَذَلَّ فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِعَمِّي فَذَكَرَهُ عَمِّي لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَحَدَّثْتُهُ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُبَيِّ ابْ
نِ سَلُولَ وَأَصْحَابِهِ فَحَلَفُوا مَا قَالُوا فَكَذَّبَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَصَدَّقَهُ فَأَصَابَنِي هَمٌّ لَمْ يُصِيبُنِي مِثْلُهُ قَطُّ وَجَلَسْتُ فِي الْبَيْتِ فَقَالَ عَمِّي مَا أَرَدْتَ إِلَى أَنْ كَذَّبَكَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَمَقَتَكَ قَالَ حَتَّى أَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ { إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُنَافِقُونَ } قَالَ فَبَعَثَ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَرَأَهَا ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ قَدْ صَدَّقَكَ
Isnad Chain
English Translation
Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that i went out with my uncle on an expedition, and I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ubayy ibn Salūl say to his companions: 'Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and if we return to Madīnah, the more honorable will surely expel the more humiliated.' I mentioned that to my uncle, and my uncle mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. the Prophet ﷺ sent for me and I told him. He then sent word to ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ubayy and his companions, but they swore they had not said it. the Messenger of Allah ﷺ disbelieved me and believed his word. I was struck by a distress the like of which I had never experienced. I stayed home, and my uncle said: 'You only wanted the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to disbelieve you and be angry with you.' Then Allah عز وجل revealed: 'When the hypocrites come to you...' [Sūrah al-Munāfiqūn]. the Prophet ﷺ sent for me and recited it, then said: 'Allah has confirmed your words, O Zayd.'
