حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنْ مَطَرٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ قَالَ شَكَّ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ فِي الْحَوْضِ فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ فَسَأَلَ
هُ عَنْ الْحَوْضِ فَحَدَّثَهُ حَدِيثًا مُوَنَّقًا أَعْجَبَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ سَمِعْتَ هَذَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ لَا وَلَكِنْ حَدَّثَنِيهِ أَخِي

English Translation
Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Ziyād had doubt about the Pool, so he sent for Zayd ibn Arqam and asked him about the Pool. He narrated to him a fine ḥadīth that pleased him. He said to him: 'Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ?' He said: 'No, but my brother narrated it to me.'
