English Translation
ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah narrated: There was a treaty between Muʿāwiyah and a people from the Romans. Muʿāwiyah went out marching through their land so that when the treaty expired he could attack them. A man was calling out from the side of the people: 'Fulfill! Do not betray!' It was ʿAmr ibn ʿAbasah. He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "Whoever has a treaty with a people, let him neither tighten a knot nor loosen one until its term expires, or let him denounce it to them on equal terms."'
