English Translation

ʿAbd al-Ṣamad and ʿAffān narrated to us, they said: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us, ʿAlī ibn Zayd informed us, from Ḥiṭṭān ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Raqāshī, from al-Ashʿarī, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Before the Hour there will be al-harj.' They said: 'What is al-harj?' He said: 'Killing.' They said: 'More than what we already kill? We kill more than seventy thousand every year.' He said: 'It is not your killing of the polytheists, but rather you killing one another.' They said: 'And will we have our minds then?' He said: 'The minds of the people of that time will be taken away, and there will be left among them only worthless rabble. Most of them will think they are upon something, but they will be upon nothing.' ʿAffān said in his narration: Abū Mūsā said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, I find no way out for myself and you, if that reaches us, except that we leave it as we entered it — not having shed any blood or taken any wealth.'
