English Translation

Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, ʿUyaynah informed us, from his father, from Abū Barzah al-Aslamī who said: I went out walking one day and there was the Prophet ﷺ heading somewhere. I thought he wanted something, so I kept stepping back and moving aside from him. He saw me and gestured to me, so I came to him. He took my hand and we walked together. Then we came upon a man praying, making many bowings and prostrations. the Prophet ﷺ said: ‘Do you think he is showing off?’ I said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He released my hand, then brought his palms together, pressing them, and began raising them to the level of his shoulders and lowering them, saying: ‘You must adopt a moderate course’ — three times — ‘for whoever contends with the religion, it will overpower him.’ Yazīd said in Baghdad: Buraydah al-Aslamī — though he had previously said: from Abū Barzah — then he reverted to Buraydah. Wakīʿ and Muḥammad ibn Bakr also said: Buraydah al-Aslamī.
