I said: 'With an iḥrām like the Prophet ﷺ's ﷺ.' He said: 'Do you have a sacrificial animal (hadī)?' I said: 'No.' So he commanded me, and I performed ṭawāf around the House and between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwah. Then I went to a woman from my people who combed and washed my hair. Then I came out of iḥrām. When the Day of Tarwiyah came, I entered iḥrām for Ḥajj. He said: I used to give this ruling to the people during the governorships of Abū Bakr and ʿUmar رضي الله تعالى عنهما. Then while I was standing at the marketplace during the pilgrimage season, a man came and whispered to me: 'You do not know what the Commander of the Faithful has introduced regarding the pilgrimage rites.' I said: 'O people, whoever we have given a ruling to regarding something, let him wait, for the Commander of the Faithful is coming to you, so follow his guidance.' He said to me: 'If we follow the Book of Allah تعالى, it commands completion (of Ḥajj and ʿUmrah). And if we follow the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ, he did not come out of iḥrām until he slaughtered his sacrificial animal.'
