حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا دَاوُدُ عَن أَبِي نَضْرَةَ عَن أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ اسْتَأْذَنَ أَبُو مُوسَى عَلَى عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى عَنْهُمَا ثَلَاثًا فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ فَرَجَعَ فَلَقِيَهُ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ م
َا شَأْنُكَ رَجَعْتَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مِنْ اسْتَأْذَنَ ثَلَاثًا فَلَمْ يُؤْذَنْ لَهُ فَلْيَرْجِعْ فَقَالَ لَتَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى هَذَا بِبَيِّنَةٍ أَوْ لَأَفْعَلَنَّ وَلَأَفْعَلَنَّ فَأَتَى مَجْلِسَ قَوْمِهِ فَنَاشَدَهُمْ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى فَقُلْتُ أَنَا مَعَكَ فَشَهِدُوا لَهُ بِذَلِكَ فَخَلَّى سَبِيلَهُ

English Translation
Yazīd narrated to us, Dāwūd informed us, from Abū Naḍrah, from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said: Abū Mūsā sought permission to enter upon ʿUmar رضي الله تعالى عنهما three times but was not granted permission, so he left. ʿUmar met him and said: 'Why did you leave?' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever seeks permission three times and is not granted permission, let him go back.' He said: 'You must bring proof of this or I shall do something to you!' So he went to the gathering of his people and adjured them by Allah تعالى. I said: 'I am with you.' They testified on his behalf, and he let him go.
